OpenServer 5.0.7V Version 3 is the first of many new products that will be coming from UnXis, Inc., a new company with a vision to develop the full potential of UNIX technology for businesses worldwide. UnXis has acquired the OpenServer and UnixWare operating system businesses with the intent of returning to, and building upon, the long tradition of offering rock solid UNIX system software to the IT market.
During the new company’s startup period, we will continue to use the www.sco.com domain for downloads, technical support and related purposes.
This book introduces the reader to OpenServer™ Release 5.0.7V for Microsoft Hyper-V Server. It provides the information you need to import and configure an OpenServer Virtual Machine on a supported Microsoft Hyper-V platform.

OpenServer 5.0.7V for Hyper-V is an optimized version of the OpenServer 5.0.7 Enterprise System that is designed to be imported into and run on Microsoft Hyper-V. OpenServer 5.0.7V for Hyper-V is delivered as a Virtual Machine Image, i.e. an image of an already installed OpenServer 5.0.7V system.

OpenServer 5.0.7V for Hyper-V runs as a Virtual Machine on top of a supported Hyper-V Release and does not impose any dependencies on the server platform. Please contact Microsoft for specific hardware requirements and certified hardware listings.
The OpenServer 5.0.7V License is a contract that grants you rights to use OpenServer software for a limited period of time. An OpenServer 5.0.7V license is required for each instance of OpenServer 5.0.7V running on a Virtual Host.
OpenServer 5.0.7V licenses are Subscription Licenses. This means that they are only valid for, and will expire at the end of the License period. At the end of the License period you will need to renew your license and register it if you want to continue to use the product.
Typically, you obtain OpenServer product licenses from your OpenServer software provider. You can locate an OpenServer software provider using the UnXis Distributor Locator at:

On first booting your OpenServer 5.0.7V product you will be
asked to enter one or more licenses. Upgrades and cross-grades to OpenServer
5.0.7V usually require the entry of one or more licenses. See the Valid OpenServer 5.0.7V License

Please note that the
Symmetric Multiprocessor (SMP) feature is not supported with this release of
OpenServer 5.0.7V for Hyper-V.
Before you can import OpenServer 5.0.7V for Hyper-V you will need to ensure that you have:
Please note that this guide does not cover how to install, configure or use Hyper-V services on your Microsoft Windows Server product. This guide assumes you have a good working knowledge of Hyper-V on the platform you are importing OpenServer 5.0.7V into.
OpenServer 5.0.7V for Hyper-V is a Virtual Machine Image designed to be imported into specific supported versions of Microsoft Windows Server. UnXis cannot support customers who attempt to import OpenServer 5.0.7V into versions of Microsoft Windows Server that are not listed as supported.
The Microsoft Windows Server you are importing to will also need to meet certain resource requirements in order to support the installation of OpenServer 5.0.7V. These requirements are discussed below.

We recommend that you have the latest Microsoft Updates applied to your system before importing OpenServer 5.0.7V.
Please note that Hyper-V services need to be enabled on your Windows Server before you can import OpenServer 5.0.7V. Please refer to your Microsoft documentation for details on how to enable Hyper-V services.
The server you are importing into will need the following in order to successfully run OpenServer 5.0.7V:
Note that additional disk space can be configured for your virtual machine once the import is complete.

This section covers how to import OpenServer 5.0.7V for Hyper-V into a supported Microsoft Hyper-V Server.
OpenServer 5.0.7V for Hyper-V is delivered in the form of a Virtual Machine Image that you “import” into your Microsoft Hyper-V Server. This documentation assumes that:
Importation of OpenServer 5.0.7V for Hyper-V will create a Virtual Machine with the following specifications:
Additional Memory, Floppy and CD/DVD Drives, Network Adapters and Hard Disks can be added to your Virtual Machine once importation is complete.
Note that Symmetric Multiprocessor (SMP) is not supported in this release of OpenServer 5.0.7V for Hyper-V.
To
import OpenServer 5.0.7V for Hyper-V do the following:

The import phase is now complete. You can now proceed to configure your OpenServer 5.0.7V Virtual Machine.
The first time you boot your OpenServer 5.0.7V Virtual Machine after import, you will be prompted for configuration details for your Virtual Machine. This section takes you through:
This section provides a checklist that will help you collect the information you need to successfully configure your imported OpenServer 5.0.7V Virtual Machine. If you complete this checklist, the configuration will go more quickly and you will have a written log of your responses, in case you ever need to troubleshoot or reconfigure your system.
Note that this guide assumes you know the IP address, Netmask (Subnet Mask), Gateway IP address and Primary/Secondary Nameserver IP addresses that will be used by your OpenServer 5.0.7V Virtual Machine. For more information on these parameters please consult your Hyper-V documentation or contact the System Administrator of your Hyper-V Server.
When booting your OpenServer 5.0.7V Virtual Machine for the first time you will be asked for the following information:

You will be required to provide one or more licenses when you first boot your OpenServer 5.0.7V Virtual Machine.

The procedure to power on your OpenServer 5.0.7V Virtual machine is as follows:

Action -> Start
On the console you should now press “Enter” to boot your Virtual Machine. You are now ready to configure your system.
The first time you boot OpenServer 5.0.7V, the OpenServer 5.0.7V Configuration Utility (/usr/sbin/guest_conf) will run on the console to take you, step by step, through the process of configuring your system. In this section we will take you through the process describing the ways in which you can respond to the prompts of the Configuration Utility.
i. Enter the relevant License Number(s), License Code(s) and License Data
ii. Select License to add the license to the Virtual Machine
iii. Select OK to acknowledge the Message
iv. Press <Enter> to continue configuring your Virtual Machine
i. Confirm that the license you have selected is correct by choosing y
ii. Press <Enter> to continue configuring your Virtual Machine
i. Enter the IP address for your virtual machine
ii. Enter the Netmask for your virtual machine
iii. Enter the Gateway IP address (router) for your virtual machine
iv. Enter the Primary NameServer IP address
v. Enter the Secondary NameServer IP address (optional)
vi. Confirm that your settings are correct using “y”
i. At the Please enter the IP address.. prompt type
1. DHCP
ii. If you do not want the gateway IP address allocated by DHCP
1. Enter the Gateway IP address for your virtual machine
2. Otherwise press <Enter> to use DHCP
iii. If you do not want the Primary Nameserver IP allocated by DHCP
1. Enter the Primary Nameserver IP address
2. Otherwise press <Enter> to use DHCP
iv. Confirm that your settings are correct using y
i. Choose the number that represents your time zone
ii. Indicate if Daylight Saving Time applies in your location
i. Choose y to set your time zone later (recommended) and <Enter> to continue
ii. Choose n to manually set your time zone (only choose this option if you have a good understanding of how to manually set your Timezone )
Registration of your OpenServer 5.0.7 V product is mandatory. If you do not register your product within 14 days of licensing it then system services will be restricted.

UnXis recommend that you make a backup of your complete system for disaster recovery purposes once you have successfully registered your system.
You will be notified by email and by warning messages on the Console and in the System Log (/var/adm/syslog) when your OpenServer 5.0.7V license is about to expire. If you wish to continue to use the product you will need to purchase a renewal license and apply it to the system (ideally before your existing license expires).
