Installing set71101i: the UnixWare 7 Release 7.1.1 Maintenance Set Dear SCO Customer, Support Level Supplement (SLS) set71101i, the UnixWare 7 Release 7.1.1 Maintenance Set, contains the following SLSs: ptf7045f ptf7058d ptf7080d ptf7130a ptf7407c ptf7410f ptf7426c ptf7430f ptf7438b ptf7441d ptf7602c ptf7603k ptf7604e ptf7607e ptf7609c ptf7610b ptf7611b ptf7612b ptf7613b ptf7614b ptf7616b ptf7617b ptf7620c ptf7624b ptf7625b ptf7627b ptf7631c ptf7632d ptf7633b ptf7634a ptf7635a ptf7636a ptf7637c ptf7639b ptf7640a ptf7641a ptf7642a ptf7643a ptf7644a ptf7645b ptf7646b ptf7647a ptf7650a ptf7651a ptf7652a ptf7654b The documentation for each PTF installed by set71101 is contained in a text file under the directory /var/sadm/pkg/ptfxxxx/install, where ptfxxxx is the PTF number without the letter suffix. These text files contain details of the files, features, and fixes that are contained in this set. These files have also been concatenated into a single file: /var/sadm/pkg/set71101/install/slscovers.txt. Before Installation You must follow these steps prior to installing set71101: 1. Log in as root. 2. The set71101 package should only be installed on UnixWare 7 Release 7.1.1 (that is, a system that has the update711 package installed). To check for update711, enter: $ pkginfo update711 3. If ptf7621 is installed, you must remove it from the system before installation of set71101. If ptf7621 is not removed, the installation of the set will abort at the start. To check for ptf7621, enter: $ pkginfo ptf7621 To remove ptf7621, enter: # pkgrm ptf7621 4. Enter: $ ps -eaf | grep lpsched If lpsched(1M) (the printing schedule daemon, part of the nsu package) is running on your machine, stop it before installing set71101 by entering: # /usr/lib/lpshut Once set71101 has been installed, printing can be restarted using this command: # /usr/lib/lpsched or by rebooting the system. 5. If you plan to add any of the following packages to your system: + any package from the Release 7.1.1 installation media + the usoftint package from the UDK you should do so before installing set71101, as installing them after set71101 will require that you follow the procedure below under ``Installing Release 7.1.1 Packages After Installing set71101''. This is necessary because set71101 updates some files in these packages as well as adding new files. If you install the above packages after set71101 without reinstalling set71101 you will end up with a mix of old and new files that may not work properly together. For example: + Earlier versions of /usr/sbin/crash are included in the cmds and osmp packages on the Release 7.1.1 media. If either of these is installed after set71101 has been installed, set71101 must be reinstalled afterwards so that the latest crash command is available. + The library libmas.a is part of the usoftint package. Again, if this package is installed from the UDK after set71101, then set71101 will need to be re-installed so that the latest version of libmas.a is available on the system. 6. If you plan on installing the Release 7.1.1 Data Center Feature Supplement (vm16fs), you should install set71101 first, and then install the Data Center supplement. 7. If you have installed or plan to install UnixWare 7 Non-Stop Clusters (NSC), you should not install set71101. Installation Instructions To perform a default installation of set71101: 1. Log in as root. 2. Copy the set71101i.Z compressed data stream to /var/spool/pkg or some other directory on your local machine; you can use any directory that has at least 12MB of free space (use df(1M) to determine the amount of free space on a file system). 3. Install the data stream by entering: # zcat /var/spool/pkg/set71101i.Z | pkgadd -d - During installation, you may see error messages such as these: ERROR: Cannot access /tmp/tmp.ptf7620/contents: No such file or directory ERROR: unable to open response file These messages can be safely ignored. After the installation is complete, go on to the next step. Do not reboot your system at this time. 4. Install ptf7632 version ``e'' (or a later version) immediately after installing set71101. You can get a copy of ptf7632e from the SCO FTP Archive at ftp://ftp.sco.com/SLS (ftp://ftp.sco.com/SLS). The files for version ``e'' are ptf7632e.txt (installation instructions) and ptf7632e.Z (the compressed PTF archive). Subsequent versions of ptf7632 will have successive ASCII characters appended to the PTF number in place of the ``e'' (e.g., ``f'', ``g'', etc.). 5. Reboot the system after the installation of ptf7632 is complete, as in this example: shutdown -i6 -y Note that set71101 contains a number of SLSs that have varying system and software requirements. A particular SLS from set71101 may fail to install on your system, while the rest of set71101 installs successfully. For example: if you have the uccs package from the UDK 7.1.1b Feature Supplement installed on your system, then the following message will appear during installation of ptf7620c from set71101: Installation of ptf7620 - Unixware 7.1.1 fur Supplement (ptf7620) failed (internal error). No changes were made to the system. The UDK 7.1.1b version of uccs provides an updated fur(1) command that is newer than the one included in ptf7620c, and is therefore not installed. The installation of set71101 will then continue. At the end of the installation, the following message will appear: The installation wasn't fully successful, see /tmp/results.set71101! Processing of packages for set is completed. You can check the file mentioned in the error message above to see a list of the SLSs that installed successfully and a list of the SLSs that failed to install. Installing Release 7.1.1 Packages After Installing set71101 If you want to add or re-install any of the following after installing set71101: + any package from the Release 7.1.1 installation media + the usoftint package from the UDK then follow this installation procedure to do so: 1. Remove set71101 following the instructions below under ``Removal Instructions''. 2. Install the desired package. 3. Re-install the update711 package if prompted to do so after you installed the above package. 4. Re-install set71101 following the instructions above under ``Installation Instructions''. Additional Software Notes and Recommendations + The documentation for each PTF installed by set71101 is contained in a text file under the directory /var/sadm/pkg/ptfxxxx/install, where ptfxxxx is the PTF number without the letter suffix. These text files contain details of the files, features, and fixes that are contained in this set. These files have also been concatenated into a single file: /var/sadm/pkg/set71101/install/slscovers.txt. + For instructions on adding, suspending, resuming and removing hot- pluggable NICs, refer to the slscovers.txt file mentioned above. + See the Late News link at http://uw7doc.sco.com (http://uw7doc.sco.com) for software notes and recommendations published subsequent to this document. Removal Instructions To remove set71101: 1. Log in as root. 2. Remove the package using these commands: # pkgrm set71101 3. Reboot the system after removing this package, as in this example: shutdown -i6 -y If you have questions regarding this SLS, or the product on which it is installed, please contact your software supplier.
