Dear SCO Customer, Support Level Supplement (SLS) ptf4018c, the 3Com 3C90x Driver Supplement, installs and configures a new driver that supports the 3Com 3C90x EtherLink XL PCI Adapter. SLS ptf4018c uses the Network Interface Card Support Utility to dynamically load the 3Com driver (e3H) from the Independent Hardware Vendor (IHV) Configuration diskette you create. SLS ptf4018c is identical to SLS ptf4018b with additional support for the 3Com EtherLink XL PCI (3C900B). SLS ptf4018b is identical to SLS ptf4018a with the addition of a fix to force the PCI Bus Master bit to "on" so that the driver will work with certain older system BIOSes. Software Notes and Recommendations ---------------------------------- SLS ptf4018c should only be installed on: SCO UnixWare Application Server Release 2.1.0, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.1.3 SCO UnixWare Personal Edition Release 2.1.0, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.1.3 SLS ptf4018c supersedes SLS ptf4018b, ptf4018a and ptf3163. Contents -------- The following files are added or updated: /etc/inst/nics/drivers/e3H/Driver.o /etc/inst/nics/drivers/e3H/Drvmap /etc/inst/nics/drivers/e3H/Master /etc/inst/nics/drivers/e3H/Node /etc/inst/nics/drivers/e3H/Space.c /etc/inst/nics/drivers/e3H/System /etc/inst/nics/drivers/e3H/e3H.bcfg /etc/inst/nics/drivers/e3H/menu.new /etc/inst/nics/drivers/e3H/menu.up Installation Instructions ------------------------- SLS ptf4018c can be installed using the pkgadd command or by creating an IHV diskette from the supplied IHV image. Follow the instructions provided below, depending on the format you choose to load. Installation using the pkgadd command: -------------------------------------- 1. Download the ptf4018c.Z file to the /tmp directory on your machine. 2. As root, uncompress the file and add the SLS package to your system using these commands: $ su Password: # uncompress /tmp/ptf4018c.Z # pkgadd -d /tmp/ptf4018c # rm /tmp/ptf4018c 3. Configure the driver. a. Invoke the NIC Support Utility. The utility can be accessed from the Desktop GUI "Admin_Tools -> Networking -> NICS_Setup" icons, or from the command line as "/usr/sbin/niccfg". The utility provides a simple menu-oriented graphical interface with online help. # /usr/sbin/niccfg b. Select the "Accept all entries" item from the menu presented. The utility will dynamically load the driver into the UnixWare kernel. 4. Establish an Internet configuration for your system. a. The Internet setup required for your Internet node can be established by using the utility access from the Desktop GUI "Admin_Tools -> Networking -> Internet_Setup" icons or the command line utility, "/etc/inet/menu". 5. Shut down and reboot the system after installing this SLS. The release notes displayed prior to installation can be found in: /var/sadm/pkg/ptf4018/install/ptf4018.txt. Installation of IHV format Supplement: -------------------------------------- A diskette containing the 3Com 3C90x Driver in IHV format, for use with the UnixWare Network Interface Card Support Utility, is required. To create the diskette and install and configure the driver, take these steps: 1. Become root and create a new directory by typing: $ su Password: # mkdir /tmp/pkg # chmod 700 /tmp/pkg # cd /tmp/pkg 2. Create the IHV driver diskette: a. Download the ptf4018c.ihv.dd.Z file, which was packaged using dd(1M) and compress(1), and the ptf4018c.txt file to the /tmp/pkg directory on your system. b. Insert a high density diskette (not write-protected) into the A: drive. If the diskette is DOS formatted, skip to the next step. Otherwise, the diskette may be formatted (in the A: drive) using this command: # format -i 1 -E /dev/rdsk/f03ht c. Transfer the contents of ptf4018c.ihv.dd.Z to a formatted diskette using these commands: # uncompress /tmp/pkg/ptf4018c.ihv.dd.Z # dd if=/tmp/pkg/ptf4018c.ihv.dd of=/dev/rdsk/f03ht 3. Install and configure the driver. Select the "Install driver from IHV diskette" item from the niccfg menu presented. c. Insert the IHV configuration diskette and press . The utility will now install and configure the driver. d. Select the "Accept all entries" item from the menu presented. If you have questions regarding this SLS, or the product on which it is installed, please contact your software supplier.
