UnixWare® 7 Fast Start Training

The UnixWare 7 Fast Start training course is designed for experienced UNIX® system administrators who want to begin using a UnixWare 7 system. This course gives you an easy to use introduction to the powerful UnixWare 7 system. The goal of the training is to help you complete a system installation and configuration. It includes an overview of the administration features in UnixWare 7, practical information, and step-by-step procedures. It is taught in SCO® Authorized Education Centers and is offered as a self-paced independent study for students with access to lab equipment. Course Objectives

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify the major features in UnixWare 7
  • Compare UnixWare 7 features and commands to SCO OpenServer
  • Prepare for installation
  • Install UnixWare 7
  • Create and test emergency recovery media
  • Use key UnixWare 7 administration tools, including SCOhelp, SCOadmin, and dcu(1M)
  • Install and license add-on software
  • Create user accounts
  • Perform key filesystems management tasks
  • Add and configure hard drives
  • Add a printer and manage print jobs
  • Add a network card and modem
  • Configure an outgoing PPP connection
  • Configure sendmail with the Mail Manager

    If you are an SCO OpenServerTM Release 5 ACE and would like to prepare for UnixWare 7 recertification then complete this course and review the topics detailed in the UnixWare 7 Recertification Exam for SCO OpenServer ACEs section in the course introduction.

    Accessing and Using the Student Guide

    For use with:

  • SCO UNIX Systems--To read and print the student guide:
    Use the Linux version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.x available at: Adobe with the Lxrun, Linux Emulator available on the SCO SkunkwareTM CD and at: Skunkware
    or
    Use the Microsoft® Windows® Adobe Acrobat Reader with SCO MergeTM.

  • Microsoft Windows--To read and print the student guide use the Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.x available at: Adobe

    NOTE: If you are using a dial-up connection and a browser with the Adobe Acrobat Reader as a plug-in, download the file before opening it. To download the file right click on the link to the course file.

    If possible print the course file using a printer that supports double-sided printing.

    Practice Lab System Requirements

    To meet the course objectives you will need to complete exercises and labs on a UnixWare 7 system.

    Software: UnixWare 7
    RAM: Minimum 32MB
    Disk Space: Minimum 500MB UNIX partition
    Video: Minimum 800x600, 256 colors

    Additional equipment required to complete the training includes:

  • a supported modem
  • a supported printer
  • a second hard drive
