Getting Started

    Western Australia DST TimeZone Patch

for

JavaTM 2, Standard Edition 5.0 and v. 1.4.2
    on SCO® UNIX® Operating Systems

On November 21st of 2006, the Parliament of Western Australia enacted legislation to change to DST effective Sunday December 3, 2006.

This patch, applicable to both J2SE 1.4.2 and J2SE 5.0 SCO supplied Java releases, provides a simple and timely procedure for updating the affected java timezone data rules as a result of new Western Australia DST rules.

This patch is NOT applicable to J2SE 1.3.1 releases.

Dwnload and Installation

  1. Print or save a copy of this "Getting Started" page for later reference.

  2. Download and print, if desired, the "README" text file. This text file contains the detailed information and steps to be followed to apply the timezone rules fix.

  3. Download the "WA.DST.TZ.tar" file. This tar file contains the updated Australia/Perth timezone rules file and a Java testcase (WATimeZone.class) to verify correct installation of the patch.

  4. Follow the procedures detailed in the README text file to install the patch in the J2SE 1.4.2 and J2SE 5.0 JREs on each system.

Permanent Updates

The patch provided here is only for a temporary work-around. All customers should upgrade to the next available SCO J2SE update release which will contain the new Western Australia DST rules.
