Dear Customer, This package contains the Open UNIX 8.0.0 Maintenance Pack 7. This Maintenance Pack contains important fixes to your Open UNIX 8 system and should be applied at your next maintenance period. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I. Software Notes and Recommendations *!NOTE!* If you are installing ou800pk7 on the Korean localized version of Open UNIX 8, then refer to the special install instructions that come with the Korean localized version of Open UNIX 8. 1. The Open UNIX 8.0.0 Maintenance Pack 7 package (ou800pk7.image) should only be installed on: Open UNIX 8.0.0 2. You can not directly upgrade a system with Open UNIX 8.0.0 Maintenance Pack 7 to UnixWare 7.1.4. or UnixWare 7.1.3. If you want to upgrade to UnixWare 7.1.3 or 7.1.4 you must first pkgrm ou800pk7. 3. If you have previously installed ou800pk1, ou800pk2, ou800pk3, ou800pk4, ou800pk5, or ou800pk6, you can install ou800pk7 without removing any of these previous Maintenance Packs. 4. If you are performing an in-place upgrade from UnixWare 7.1.1 to Open UNIX 8, make sure to reboot the system after installing the Open UNIX 8 Update before installing this Maintenance Pack. 5. You must install the Maintenance Pack after LKP to ensure that the LKP fixes in the Maintenance Pack get installed. 6. The SCO Advanced File and Print Server Version 4.0.1 does not work with the ou800pk7 libthread package. ou800pk7 will not install on a system if asuserver-4.0.1 is installed. Please upgrade to SCO AFPS Version 4.0.2 before installing ou800pk7. A copy of SCO AFPS Version 4.0.2 is distributed along with this maintenance pack. You can download the package from: ftp://ftp.sco.com/pub/openunix8/ou800pk/afps402.image Your SCO AFPS Version 4.0.1 license will work with SCO AFPS Version 4.0.2. Please refer to Section II for installation instructions for the SCO AFPS 4.0.2 package. 7. Revised basex and xserver packages with some security fixes are distributed along with this maintenance pack. You can download these packages from: ftp://ftp.sco.com/pub/openunix8/ou800pk/ Please refer to Section II for installation instructions. 8. This version of the Maintenance Pack supersedes the following Supplements which may have been withdrawn from the ftp site: 1. ou800pk1 (Open UNIX 8.0.0, Maintenance Pack 1) 2. ou800pk2 (Open UNIX 8.0.0, Maintenance Pack 2) 3. ou800pk3 (Open UNIX 8.0.0, Maintenance Pack 3) 4. ou800pk4 (Open UNIX 8.0.0, Maintenance Pack 4) 5. ou800pk5 (Open UNIX 8.0.0, Maintenance Pack 5) 6. ou800pk6 (Open UNIX 8.0.0, Maintenance Pack 6) 7. ptf8001 8. ptf8002 9. ptf8003 10. ptf8004 11. ptf8005 12. ptf8006 13. ptf8007 14. ptf8008 9. The ou800pk7.image file is a set and contains the following packages: 1. ou800m7 Maintenance Pack 7 Package 2. libc Runtime C Library Package 3. libm Runtime Math Library Package 4. libC Runtime C++ Library Package 5. libthread Runtime Thread Library Package Installing ou800pk7 will update the above runtime libraries as well as install the ou800m7 package. 10. Once installed, the runtime libraries are not removable. 11. The following runtime libraries are also part of the UnixWare Development Kit (UDK): libc (version 8.0.0-21 is in ou800pk7) libC (version 8.0.0-20 is in ou800pk7) libm (version 8.0.0-20 is in ou800pk7) If a later version of any of these packages is installed on your system, then the ou800pk7 set will fail to install. For example, this will happen if you have later versions of these packages installed on your system from UnixWare 7.1.3 media or a UnixWare 7.1.3 (or later) UDK. In this case, please use the following workaround to install the required Open UNIX 8.0.0 Maintenance Pack 7 components. # cat ou800pk7.image | pkgadd -d - libthread # cat ou800pk7.image | pkgadd -d - ou800m7 12. This supplement contains fixes required to install Informix 9.30 and Oracle 9i, as well as other applications on Open UNIX 8.0.0. 13. ou800pk7 updates sendmail to version 8.12.9 + security fixes from 8.12.10. However, if you previously added a version of sendmail provided by a vendor other than The SCO Group, then ou800pk7 will not update that version. After installing ou800pk7, running sendmail commands such as the newalias command may display the following error message: Warning: .cf file is out of date: sendmail 8.12.9 supports version 10, .cf file is version 9 Mail will continue to function. However none of the new features, implemented in the configuration file, will be available unless you edit this file manually. See http://sendmail.org for further detail. Only sendmail has been updated. SCOadmin has not been updated. The old configuration file has been left in place to allow continued use of the SCOadmin interface. 14. For a list of issues that this Maintenance Pack addresses, please view the accompanying Errata file. You can view the errata file at: ftp://ftp.sco.com/pub/openunix8/ou800pk/ou800pk7errata.txt 15. If you have questions regarding this supplement, or the product on which it is installed, please contact your software supplier or support representative. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- II. Installation Instructions 1. Download the ou800pk7.image, basex.image and xserver.image files to your server. 2. AFPS users should also download afps402.image file and install it before installing ou800pk7 as follows: $ su - Password: # cat afps402.image | pkgadd -d - All components will be deselected. Select the ones that you want to update. You will then be presented with the following message: "This version of Advanced Server is currently installed on this system." Answer y, and proceed with the installation. 3. Install ou800pk7 as follows: $ su - Password: # cat ou800pk7.image | pkgadd -d - 4. Install the revised basex and xserver packages as follows: # cat basex.image | pkgadd -d - # cat xserver.image | pkgadd -d - 5. Reboot the system after installing the above packages via: # shutdown -g0 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- III. Removal Instructions *!NOTE!* Removal of the ou800pk7 set is not recommended. As noted in Section I, the runtime library packages are not removable. Thus when you remove the ou800pk7 set only the ou800m7 package is removed: To remove the Maintenance Pack use the commands: # pkgrm ou800pk7 # shutdown -g0 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IV. What do I do when I get the following reinstall update800 and ou800m7 error message? WARNING: Reapply update800 package, reboot your system, and then reapply ou800m7 package. Failure to do so may leave your system in an inconsistent state. This appears when you install a package other than kdb or osmp from the Open UNIX 8 CD-ROM on a system that has the Open UNIX 8.0.0 Maintenance Pack installed. (See the next section if you installed kdb and/or osmp.) Since the files in the Maintenance Pack are newer than the files on the Open UNIX 8 CD-ROM you will need to reapply both updates (update800 followed by ou800m7) to be current. To reapply the updates, follow these instructions: 1. Insert Open UNIX 8.0.0 CD 1 in the CD-ROM drive 2. Mount the CD using the command: # mount /dev/cdrom/cdrom1 /mnt 3. Reapply the Open UNIX 8.0.0 Update with the command: # pkgadd -d /mnt/UpdateSet update800 4. Change to the directory where you copied the Maintenance Pack. 5. Reapply the Open UNIX 8.0.0 Maintenance Pack with the command: # cat ou800pk7.image | pkgadd -d - ou800m7 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- V. What do I do when I get the following reinstall ou800m7 error message? WARNING: Reapply ou800m7 package. Failure to do so may leave your system in an inconsistent state. This appears when you install the kdb or osmp package from the Open UNIX 8.0.0 CD-ROM on system that has the Open UNIX 8.0.0 Maintenance Pack installed. In this case you must install ou800pk7 to update the osmp and kdb binaries. 1. Change to the directory where you copied the Maintenance Pack. 2. Reapply the Open UNIX 8.0.0 Maintenance Pack with the command: # cat ou800pk7.image | pkgadd -d - ou800m7
