Simple network systems are systems that can function independently of
other computers but can also utilize their network connections
to access information and resources if required. These types
of systems are generally used when the application or
the user only needs to communicate with a server
occasionally, or the system is used in a mobile
environment. Some examples of simple network systems
are:
network computers
geological field equipment
traffic monitoring systems
sales/order confirmation systems for sales representatives
security surveillance
remote POS applications
The Embedded Configuration Toolkit provides a mechanism to enable you
to generate a UNIX operating system including network drivers
that is tailored to both the system hardware and
requirements of the simple network application. Once the operating
system (with its network drivers) has been generated, you
can use the toolkit to bundle your application and
tailored operating system into an image that can then
be loaded onto the system hardware.
