Peripheral support
The majority of peripherals available today utilize standard
PC serial or parallel I/O interfaces. The configuration toolkit
provides the low-level driver software for PC parallel (output
only) and RS232 interfaces. Peripherals utilizing these interfaces
are then controlled by an application-supplied program or daemon.
For peripherals not utilizing the standard serial and parallel interfaces, additional kernel drivers are required. Since the device driver interface used by the toolkit is exactly the same as for the standard SCO OpenServer system, an existing SCO OpenServer system device driver can be utilized. There is a good chance one does exist, given that SCO OpenServer supports more than 1000 peripherals.
See also Chapter 4, ``Toolkit features'' for details of supported system keyboard devices and the IBM 4690 family of peripherals.
If a new device driver does need to be written, refer to the documentation listed in Appendix A, ``Toolkit documentation''. SCO Professional Services can also be contacted for help on this matter.
