UnixWare 7.1.4
New Features and Notes -- Addendum

May 2006

This document describes the changes made to the UnixWare 7.1.4 Revised Media Kit in May 2006:

After installing CD #1 and CD #2, please then install the complete latest Maintenance Pack. See the Upgrading to the Latest UnixWare 7.1.4 Maintenance Pack section below for details.

Installation instructions for UnixWare 7.1.4 fresh and upgrade installations are in the Getting Started Guide. A printed copy of the Getting Started Guide is included with the Media Kit; HTML versions in English, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish are available on Base Operating System CD #1 under /info/gsg and in the online documentation at http://uw714doc.sco.com/en/RNOTES/getstartTOC.html. The Getting Started Guide also includes a list of all software included on the Media Kit CD-ROMs, licensing and installation defaults, installation prerequisites, and other useful information.

Automatic Installation of UnixWare 7.1.4 Maintenance Pack 3 Set and ptf9052c

The UnixWare 7.1.4 CD #1 automatically installs the Maintenance Pack 3 Set (uw714mp3) on the system.

CD #1 also contains ptf9052c, and this is automatically installed after the Maintenance Pack.

NOTE: If you install any packages from CD #2 or CD #3, or add any other additional packages after installation, you will need to reinstall Maintenance Pack 3 and then reapply ptf9052c from CD #1:

To reapply ptf9052c, insert CD #1, and then issue these commands:

mount /dev/cdrom/cdrom1 /mnt
pkgadd -d /mnt/upd.additions/ptf9052 ptf9052
umount /mnt

Upgrading to the Latest UnixWare 7.1.4 Maintenance Pack

To complete your system installation, after installing CD #1 and CD #2 you should install the entire latest UnixWare 7.1.4 Maintenance Pack.

Please note that CD #1 was revised in May 2006 to include the Maintenance Pack 3 set (uw714mp3). When you install your system there may be a later Maintenance Pack available. If so, the Maintenance CD in the new media kits will provide that Maintenance Pack. Or you can download the latest Maintenance Pack from http://www.sco.com/support/update/download/product.php?pfid=1&prid=6. Either way, please install the latest Maintenance Pack.

As noted above, to enable installation on some newer hardware since the original UnixWare 7.1.4 release, CD #1 now includes, and automatically installs, the uw714mp3 set that is part of UnixWare 7.1.4 Maintenance Pack 3. However, separately installable packages included on the Maintenance CD are not automatically installed by CD #1, and must be separately installed from the latest Maintenance CD.

For more information about the latest Maintenance Pack, see the Release Notes provided on the Maintenance CD or at http://www.sco.com/support/update/download/product.php?pfid=1&prid=6.

Loading HBAs from CD #1

The table below lists all the HBA drivers supplied on CD #1, both on the original 7.1.4 Media Kit CDs and the Revised May 2006 CDs. The UnixWare Host Bus Adapter (HBA) drivers marked with an asterisk (*) in the table below are available from the bootable CD image. If other HBAs are needed during installation, they can be loaded from CD #1. See the installation procedure in the Getting Started Guide.

Installation: eels Causes Maintenance Pack Reinstall Message

Because the uw714mp3 set is installed automatically when you install CD #1, selecting eels (Enhanced Event Logging System) from CD #2 results in a warning message to reinstall the latest Maintenance Pack. See the Release Notes on the Maintenance Pack CD, or on the UnixWare 7.1.4 Support Download Web Site at: http://www.sco.com/support/update/download/product.php?pfid=1&prid=6 for how to install the latest Maintenance Pack.

Fixes: Installation Problems Fixed in the UnixWare 7.1.4 Revised Media Kit

  1. ISL displays misleading disk geometry --
If a system has a storage device that's recognized on boot but contains invalid fdisk partitions, the installation will display gibberish geometry, confusing valid partsizes with invalid partsizes and can easily lead a user into installing to the "wrong" drive.
    (ID: 531475:1)

  2. Cannot load HBA floppy via USB floppy drive during ISL --
Attempting to load an HBA floppy via a USB floppy drive during ISL always results in the HBA drivers being read from the installation cdrom instead (which is enabled as an HBA cdrom.)
    (ID: 531491:1)

Notice: No MCA-based HBA Support

MCA-based HBA drivers are no longer supported in UnixWare 7.1.4.
