Dear SCO Customer, This package contains the UnixWare 7.1.1 Maintenance Pack 5. This Maintenance Pack contains important fixes to your UnixWare 7.1.1 system and should be installed at your next maintenance period. This Maintenance Pack is the Minimum Recommended Patch for UnixWare 7.1.1 and should be installed prior to submitting problem reports to SCO Support. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I. Software Notes and Recommendations 1. UnixWare 7 Maintenance Pack 5 should only be installed on: UnixWare 7.1.1 2. If you are performing an in-place upgrade from UnixWare 7.1.0 to UnixWare 7.1.1, make sure to reboot the system after installing the update711 package and before installing this Maintenance Pack. 3. This Maintenance Pack consists of the following sets and packages: o uw711mp5 - UnixWare 7.1.1 Maintenance Pack 5 Set This set contains the following packages: uw711m5 - UnixWare 7.1.1 Maintenance Pack 5 Package libc - Runtime C Library, version 7.1.1a libthread - Runtime Thread Library, version 7.1.1a o Four updated packages: basex - X11R6 Base X Runtime System, version 7.1.1d xserver - X11R6 X Server, version 7.1.1c xclients - X11R6 X Clients, version 7.1.1a xcontrib - X11R6 Contributed X Clients, version 7.1.1a o Four new optional packages: zlib - General Purpose Data Compression Library, version 1.2.1 openssl - Secure Sockets Layer/TLS Cryptography Toolkit, version 0.9.7d openssld - OpenSSL Documentation, version 0.9.7d openssh - Open Secure Shell, version 3.9p1 4. An install.sh script is provided to simplify installation, as described in the Installation Instructions section below. Use of this script is highly recommended. The install.sh script installs the following: o The uw711mp5 set. o Newer versions of the updated packages listed above, provided earlier versions of these packages are already installed on your system. o Prompts whether you want to install the new packages listed above. Note that it will automatically install these new packages if earlier versions of these packages are installed on your system. Alternatively, with care, you can install the packages individually. However, you should note the following: o The uw711mp5 set is required for all systems. o The following packages are required to be updated, that is you need to install them if you have an earlier version installed on the system: basex, xserver, xclients, xcontrib o The following packages are optional: zlib, openssl, openssld, openssh If you did not install some of the above packages when initially installing UnixWare 7.1.1, and you want to do so now, you can do so using the install.sh script. You do not need to first install the original UnixWare 7.1.1 versions. Please refer to the Installation Instructions section below. 5. If you decide to upgrade your UnixWare 7.1.1 Maintenance Pack 5 system to Open UNIX 8.0.0 (UnixWare 7.1.2), UnixWare 7.1.3, or UnixWare 7.1.4, you must first remove the uw711mp5 set. If you have UnixWare 7.1.1 Maintenance Pack 4 installed, you must also remove the uw711mp4 set. If upgrading to Open UNIX 8.0.0, which is no longer supported, you must upgrade the basex, xserver, xclients and xcontrib packages during that upgrade. 6. This Maintenance Pack supersedes and obsoletes: set71101 - Maintenance Set 71101 vm16fs - DCAP Feature Supplement uw711m1 - UnixWare 7.1.1 Maintenance Pack 1 uw711m2 - UnixWare 7.1.1 Maintenance Pack 2 uw711m3 - UnixWare 7.1.1 Maintenance Pack 3 uw711mp4 - UnixWare 7.1.1 Maintenance Pack 4 These packages and sets do not need to be removed prior to installing uw711mp5. This Maintenance Pack does not contain all of the man pages and docs bundled with vm16fs. Specifically, it includes the kcrash and vm16plus packages, but not the vm16doc package. 7. This Maintenance Pack does not contain the following Feature Supplements for 7.1.1: udifs - Universal Driver Interface Feature Supplement udkfs - UnixWare/OpenServer Development Feature Supplement The Maintenance Pack, however, does contain some files from the uccs package. Therefore should you choose to install one or more of these supplements, they must be installed prior to installing this Maintenance Pack. 8. The uw711mp5 set updates sendmail to version 8.12.9 + security fixes from 8.12.10. However, if you previously installed a version of sendmail provided by a vendor other than The SCO Group, then uw711mp5 will not update that version. After installing uw711mp5, running sendmail commands such as the newalias command may display the following error message: Warning: .cf file is out of date: sendmail 8.12.9 supports version 10, .cf file is version 9 Mail will continue to function. However none of the new features, implemented in the configuration file, will be available unless you edit this file manually. See http://sendmail.org for further detail. Only sendmail has been updated. SCOadmin has not been updated. The old configuration file has been left in place to allow continued use of the SCOadmin interface. To avoid the warning message edit /etc/sendmail.cf and change the config file format entry (the first non comment line) from "V9" to "V10". Note that once you edit sendmail.cf manually you will no longer be able to use SCOadmin to manage sendmail. If you make this change, ensure that the configuration file is compatible with the V10 format see http://www.sendmail.org for further details on versioning. 9. For a complete listing of the PTFs superseded by this Maintenance Pack see the errata file. You can install the Maintenance Pack without removing the PTFs listed. The installation of this Maintenance Pack will lock down these PTFs and they will no longer be individually removable. 10. For a list of issues that this Maintenance Pack addresses, please view the errata file. 11. If you have questions regarding this supplement or the product on which it is installed, please contact your software supplier or Technical Support representative. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- II. Installation Instructions 1. Log in as root. 2. From ftp://ftp.sco.com/pub/unixware7/uw711pk download the following file to your server: uw711mp5.cpio.Z 3. Change the working directory to where you downloaded the above file and extract package files as follows: zcat uw711mp5.cpio.Z | cpio -icdv 4. To install the required uw711mp5 set and the updated packages on your system, type: ./install.sh [-v] The optional -v flag provides more status information during the installation. 5. To individually install packages and sets, run the following command: ./install.sh [packages] where packages is one or more of the following: uw711mp5 basex xserver xclients xcontrib zlib openssl openssld openssh Note: o The xserver, xclients and xcontrib packages depend upon the basex package. o The openssh package depends upon the uw711m5, openssl and zlib packages. o The openssl package depends upon the zlib package. 6. After all desired packages are installed, reboot the system by typing: shutdown -i6 -g0 -y 7. It is strongly recommended to spool the update711 package and uw711mp5 set on to your system so that the uw711mp5 scripts automatically update the system if needed. This is necessary if you install a UnixWare 7 media kit package after uw711mp5, and update711/uw711mp5 have updates for this package. To spool the update711 package, insert the UnixWare 7.1.1 CD 2 in the CD-ROM drive, and enter: pkgadd -s /var/spool/pkg -d cdrom1 update711 all To spool the uw711mp5 set, cd to the directory in step 3 and enter: pkgadd -s /var/spool/pkg -d `pwd`/uw711mp5.image all ---------------------------------------------------------------------- III. Removal Instructions 1. Log in as root. 2. To remove the uw711mp5 set, type: pkgrm uw711mp5 Note that removal of the uw711mp5 set is not recommended. If the UnixWare 7.1.1 Maintenance Pack 4 set is also installed on your system, the libc and libthread packages will not be removed. Note that if you have installed the openssh package then you'll need to first remove it before removing uw711mp5. 3. To fully restore your system to its prior state, reinstall the UnixWare 7.1.1 media kit version of the following updated packages: basex xserver xclients xcontrib Note that removal of the updated packages is not recommended. 4. After all the packages are removed, reboot the system by typing: shutdown -i6 -g0 -y ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SEE ALSO: TA#125943, "What problems were fixes by the UnixWare 7.1.1 Maintenance Pack 5 (1 of 2)?"
